I’m Xiao Zhan. Back in high school, I began using the pen name Vast Azure Cosmos (Chinese spelling “Zhan Yu Tian Yeh”) for illustration contests. Over time, people online started calling me simply “Xiao Zhan,” and the name stuck.

I majored in Sculpture at the National Taiwan University of Arts. Following graduation, I spent over a decade in the creative industry, working as a game artist, sculptor, art instructor, graphic designer, and illustrator. Since 2012, I’ve been running my Facebook page “Vast Azure Cosmos | Azure’s Journal of Life on Earth and the Spirit World”, documenting my spiritual awakening and illustrated reflections on everyday life to this day.

At the end of 2017, I launched “Xiao Zhan’s Drawing Class: Releasing the Mind’s Burdens Through Art.” I was surprised by the enthusiastic response from students, which led to the course expanding from Level 1 to Level 2, along with intermediate classes like Level 1.5 and Level 2.5, and finally Level 3 — the graduation level. To date, three cohorts of students have graduated from Level 3, yet there are still people signing up for Level 1. When I first started, I thought I’d be teaching for maybe a year or two at most — but thanks to everyone's support, I was able to leave the corporate world and start my own studio.

My drawing class is based on my observations of the spirit world and my deep understanding of energy gained through Qigong practice, along with the wisdom and experience that passed down to me.

In the course, I teach the basics of drawing materials and techniques. Beyond that, in the spiritual realm, I work with my own spirit to help students’ souls become more familiar with processing the stresses of body and mind.

For those who don’t resonate with energy or the spiritual aspect, that part can be ignored. My fees are kept at the level of typical art classes on the market—I’m not interested in charging more. As long as it fairly reflects the time and effort I invest and supports me, that’s enough.

To me, sharing plays a crucial role in building trust and cooperation between people—it is truly invaluable. That’s why I share all my observations and insights openly and generously on my blog (which collects all my articles) and Facebook, so anyone seeking information can freely access valuable help through keyword searches.

This blog is a record of my life, including my stubbornness and immaturity, but also a way for you to witness my growth. I know I’m not perfect, nor do I aspire to be. A perfect canvas is nothing more than a blank sheet of paper. I’d rather embrace my human flaws—with both light and shadow—and express myself in a way that’s uniquely mine. Chasing perfection is tough, and everyone has their own definition of it. There’s no need to force yourself into being someone else’s ideal. We are simply who we are, returning to the essence of our own lives.

I encourage my students the same way — it’s okay to have regrets, confusion, or uncertainty in life. At least we still exist, still able to reflect and seek ways forward.

As I focus more on how to help others, I combine my personal expertise accumulated over the years, such as my personal realizations about art and creativity. Whether it’s through my drawing classes — helping people mindfully care for their emotions — or the online meditation classes I started in 2021 in response to the pandemic — guiding people back to mind-body integration.

I have many ideas for new courses and collaborative products that merge different creative fields. I’ve always loved design and aesthetics, and now I can combine my passions with entrepreneurship while helping people deepen their connection with the world. This website opens up more possibilities to explore these kinds of projects.

A heartfelt thanks to every single one of you!
